Man Utd star Edinson Cavani ‘angry’ with Red Devils after Premier League decision

Edinson Cavani, a Manchester United striker, was scheduled to represent Uruguay next month.

According to sources, Edinson Cavani is dissatisfied with Manchester United following the club's decision to support Premier League rules prohibiting players from representing red-listed countries during the international break.

The 34-year-old was set to play for Uruguay next month, but due to the recent verdict, he will be unable to travel to South America.

All 20 Premier League teams have agreed that players will not be able to register for international duty if their matches are scheduled to take place in a country with high COVID-19 infection rates.

Along with Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, and Turkey are on the government's blacklist, with the Premier League's decision affecting a number of high-profile players.

According to existing regulations, people returning from affected countries would be subjected to a 10-day quarantine, banning them from participating in full training sessions.

Cavani is 'mad' with United as a result of the club's part in pressing for the league-wide limits, according to the Daily Star.

On Tuesday evening, he showed his disappointment on Instagram, posting an image of a Premier League statement confirming the news beside three huge question marks.

The experienced striker, who has yet to participate in a competitive match for Manchester United this season, will now miss Uruguay's critical World Cup qualifiers against Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador.

Premier League executives were initially optimistic that a quarantine exemption would be granted, allowing players to play for their national teams without too much difficulty.

However, FIFA and the UK government reportedly remained steadfast in their opposition to modifying the present rules and refused to bend.

The Premier League went on to say that player welfare was a crucial consideration in their decision to prohibit players from representing red-listed countries.

"Extensive conversations have taken place with both the FA and the government to find a solution, but no exemption has been granted owing to continued public health concerns pertaining to incoming tourists from red-list countries," their statement said.

"If players are obliged to quarantine upon return from red list nations, not only will their health and fitness suffer, but they will also be unable to prepare for and play in two Premier League match rounds, a UEFA club competition match-day, and the third round of the EFL Cup.

"This term includes 10 days of hotel quarantine upon return to England but excludes any further time required for players to restore match fitness."

Meanwhile, Premier League chief executive Richard Masters reiterated his respect for the aspirations of the players but emphasized that a solution that is acceptable to all parties is just not achievable at this time.

"Premier League clubs have always supported their players' desire to represent their countries; this is a source of pride for everyone involved," he stated.

"However, clubs have reluctantly but correctly concluded that releasing players under these new circumstances would be completely unreasonable.

"We recognize the issues that the international match calendar presents and remain open to viable solutions."
