Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to make changes when his team faces West Ham United for the second time in four days tomorrow.
The two clubs will meet in the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford, a game that Solskjaer often utilizes to rest veteran players and test young players.
However, with a particularly large and talented senior team this season, the manager will want to provide minutes to peripheral senior players, leaving limited chances for his academy heroes — at least in the starting lineup.
We anticipate that Dean Henderson will be given some minutes in goal as part of his recovery from sickness caused by a Covid infection. He has already represented the Under 23s, so it is a natural progression.
Although there are other center back possibilities, including Eric Bailly and Phil Jones, the manager generally prefers to play captain Harry Maguire regardless of the situation, and we expect this to be the case again tomorrow. Raphael Varane, who was on the bench against Young Boys, may be substituted for Victor Lindelof.
Diogo Dalot is expected to start at full-back, as he will be needed to cover for the suspended Aaron Wan-Bissaka against Villareal in the Champions League next week. He will almost certainly replace the Englishman, however if Luke Shaw needs a rest, he may be played on the left.
Alex Telles is still unable to play due to an injury.
If Donny van de Beek is to have a future at Manchester United, he must start this game. Given a chance against Young Boys, the Dutchman seemed to be doing well before being pulled out at half-time following Wan-dismissal. Bissaka's It appeared to be a severe decision.
Nemanja Matic may play directly behind Van de Beek, or they could form a defensive midfield double pivot.
Bruno Fernandes is another player that Solskjaer never seems to rest, but perhaps this will be one of those few times. The manager has already stated that Jesse Lingard will start the game, therefore he may be assigned to the number 10 position.
Jadon Sancho has yet to find his feet at Manchester United, and this could be an excellent opportunity for him to receive more playing time. We anticipate him playing on the left flank, with Juan Mata receiving a rare chance on the right.
This frees up the center-forward position. With Ronaldo anticipated to be rested, Solskjaer stated that he hoped Edinson Cavani would be available, but that the safest choice would be for him to come off the bench for 30 minutes. Anthony Martial may so lead the line, hoping to reclaim the form that eluded him last season.
Some United teenagers may see play off the bench, but the team selection for tonight's Under 21s Papa Johns Trophy encounter against Bradford may indicate who is in contention. Anthony Elanga, Shola Shoretire, Hannibal Mejbri, and Teden Mengi are among those looking for a chance. Amad Diallo is still out with a thigh injury.
With that in mind, here is our anticipated starting lineup for tomorrow's game:
