Manchester United sent transfer message after Southampton draw

Manchester United sent transfer message after Southampton draw

Manchester United fans sent a clear message to the club on social media following their Premier League draw with Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United supporters have encouraged the team to sign a midfielder following their 1-1 draw with Southampton.

United was frustrated throughout the game by Ralph Hasenhuttl's side, with Southampton regularly pressing United's midfielders and prompting United's midfield duo of Fred and Matic to throw the ball away needlessly.

When Southampton won the ball deep in United's defensive sector, United succumbed as a result of poor midfield play. The ball dropped to Che Adams, whose shot deflected off of Fred and into the net past David De Gea.

Too many United fans, the game was an indictment of the club's midfield woes and the need to sign a holding midfielder, who may be the missing piece in the club's summer transfer jigsaw.

Many people took to social media to express their concerns and encourage United to act during the transfer window before it was too late.

Today is an excellent example of why we NEED to sign a defensive midfielder, according to @AidanWalshMUFC. But, let's be honest, the club will fail us.

@ScottPlf: It's so obvious that it's actually comical. We have two CDMs and Matic as our depth after McFred. This might imply that Matic starts 15-20 games (without any injuries to McFred). That is not a team in the league.

@NinadB 06: Same old Manchester United, same old issues hurting results. Can we please get a midfielder signed as soon as possible?

@Jamesstretford: This is the same as the previous season. There is a lot of attacking strength, but no midfield. You'll lose a lot of games if you can't control the game. It makes no difference if you have Varane, Sancho, or Messi. It's ridiculous for United not to sign a top-tier midfielder who can dominate the game. It's a nonsense game.

@Sayan devil: Today proved why, unless we recruit a holding midfielder in the remaining window, we will only be able to compete for a top-four spot this season.

@lokmanyu06: We require the services of a holding midfielder. Southampton's midfield is schooling me. I'm sorry, Fred and Matic.

With less than two weeks until the transfer market closes, United is running out of time to sign a new midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether the fans' requests will be granted.
