Bruno Fernandes refuses to set personal targets for Euro 2020

Bruno Fernandes refuses to set personal targets for Euro 2020

Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United helped Portugal get off to a solid start at Euro 2020.

As Portugal defeated Hungary 3-0, Fernandes produced three chances. However, he did not score, and neither did his teammates convert his opportunities for an assist.

The United manager claims that he doesn't mind as long as his team keeps winning.

Fernandes says he refuses to set personal goals ahead of Portugal's next match on Saturday.

“The only aim I set is to help the squad as much as possible, whether with shots from outside the area or inside,” Fernandes told Publico. It doesn't matter how the ball gets in; what matters is that it gets in.”

When asked if being the player at Euro 2020 who has played the most club minutes this season is a factor for him, Fernandes answers it isn't.

“I aim to end the European this way, just to put pressure on the coach,” he told Sapo Desporto. Helping the national team is the most important thing. The team will always take precedence. If I don't run on the field, I'll run in practice to assist my teammates.”

Next up is a difficult task.

Because Portugal's next two games are against Germany and France, it's critical that they have three points already.

On Saturday, Portugal will face Germany, and Fernandes is both fearful of the obstacles ahead and confident in his own team's ability.

“We don't need to inquire anything about Germany,” Fernandes told Publico. It's a fantastic team with fantastic players. They didn't have an awful debut, but France has a fantastic team as well. It will be a tough game for us, as much as for them.”

Fernandes has 49 goals and assists in all competitions for both club and country this season, and only needs one more to hit the 50-goal mark.
