Anthony Martial isn't a perfect Premier League attacker, but Manchester United is wise to keep him around for another season.
For months, Manchester United has toyed with the possibility of trading Anthony Martial. Fortunately for Old Trafford fans, the French attacker now appears to be destined to stay at the club for at least one more season.
According to The Telegraph, United executives have switched course and opted not to sell Martial this summer. Instead, they'll give him another chance to earn the trust of boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The difficulty for Martial at United appears to be locating his optimal spot. He prefers to play in a central attacking position, either as a striker or in a midfield three. Because of the club's presence of Bruno Fernandes, Martial will always struggle to log important minutes as the team's No. 10 in key games.

Martial also lacks the physical size required to operate as a stand-alone striker against the Premier League's rough and tumble defense. The only way for United to get him on the field on a consistent basis is to use him as a wide attacker.
Selling Martial would have been an expensive mistake for Manchester United. He may be an awkward fit at United right now, but he has much too much offensive skill to give up on. Selling him for the £50 million United were rumored to be seeking this summer would have been a terrible miscalculation on the club's part.
United executives should make it clear to Solskjaer that it is his obligation to find a way for Martial to produce more in the future.
This almost certainly implies allowing the Frenchman more flexibility to move around the attacking third. Keeping Martial confined to one sideline is a waste of his abilities.
Allowing him to run freely towards the middle of the field with the ball at his feet may allow him to play his greatest football.
At the very least, keeping Martial in the fold provides United with another opportunity to create their strongest overall assault next season. Nobody should be surprised if 2021-22 is the Frenchman's breakout season.
