Man United Team News vs Leeds: Sancho, Varane, Henderson, Cavani

Manchester United kicks off a season full of high hopes and expectations against Leeds United at home on Saturday.

It's the first of two matches on a special Saturday slate and the second overall fixture of the new season.

It also has the potential to be a doozy for United, as they face a local rival who has proven to be a tough out for everyone in the Premier League, and they could be without as many as nine crucial players!

DON'T MISS:

Because he has only trained with the squad for a week, summer addition Jadon Sancho may not play, or if he does, it will be in a limited position.

Raphael Varane's transfer from Real Madrid is still being finalized, and he is all but ruled out for this one.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson is questionable owing to a recent absence from training due to persistent exhaustion caused by covid-19 infection. Jesse Lingard has been ruled out due to a positive covid test.

Phil Jones (knee) is also out, although it's still news to many that he's still on the team (and at this point, why is he?) Marcus Rashford will be out until October after deciding to have long-overdue shoulder surgery.

According to The Athletic, Edinson Cavani "was granted prolonged vacation following this summer's Copa America to return home to Uruguay to spend time with family members."

“For the better part of two years, COVID-19 restrictions have stopped the forward from seeing some friends and family.”

Similarly, Eric Bailly has only recently returned from international duty with the Ivory Coast, who will compete in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. Meanwhile, Alex Telles, the left-back, is out with an ankle injury.

Leeds is concerned about three players: Diego Llorente (knee), Junior Firpo (knee), and Jamie Shackleton (knee) (head).
