Rio Ferdinand urges Man United to sign this star from West Ham

Rio Ferdinand would rather see Declan Rice join Manchester United this summer than Eduardo Camavinga. In recent days, the Red Devils have been linked with a move for Rennes midfielder Camavinga as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to boost his squad ahead of next season. Rice, a midfielder for West Ham United, has been mentioned as a possible target for Manchester United ahead of the upcoming season as the Red Devils attempt to fight for the Premier League title.

According to the latest sources, Rice, 22, has turned down West Ham's latest contract offers despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea FC.

DON'T MISS:

Rice's performances for West Ham last season garnered him a lot of plaudits, as he scored two goals and added one assist in 32 Premier League games for the east London club. Rice, according to former Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand, would be a better acquisition for the Red Devils than Rennes' Camavinga, who scored one goal and added two assists in 35 Ligue 1 appearances last season. Ferdinand said on his FIVE YouTube channel regarding Manchester United's rumored interest in Camavinga: "I haven't seen enough of him if I'm honest."“I saw his performance against Paris Saint-Germain when he was named Man of the Match... unbelievable.

Obviously, he has skill, but is he going to come in and make an immediate impact on the squad and become a star? Or will he follow in the footsteps of Amad? Who comes in, [costs] £40 million, but is currently not in the starting XI. Is that exactly what we require?“Or do we need someone like Declan Rice, who is flying right now and has taken it to new heights in an England shirt?“We all thought he was a terrific player at West Ham, but Declan Rice's current role in the England team for his age is insane.

“Then it's a question of whether Man United has the financial means to go and get him from West Ham. What will West Ham's demands be?

DON'T MISS:

“But Rice brings you character. He brings you a character that’s probably not in the game as much now as it was in my generation. Someone who is a sponge with information wants to get better, wants to get in to an environment where he has a chance of winning constantly, he’s envious of his mates who win at other clubs.

“He reminds me a little bit of myself at his age, you want to get there and get into an environment where you can go and win, whether that’s Man United, he probably thinks West Ham at the moment, as well as he’s done there and as much as he loves the club and the people there, especially after a Euros, I did it after a World Cup with Leeds, I’ve smelt and tasted that chance of being around world-class players, I needed that every week.

“Again, the character, you can’t undervalue what character is – Jordan Henderson has it at Liverpool.

“Some people will say, ‘oh he’s not as good as him or as good as him’, but a lot of those ‘as good as him’ people don’t have that character to drive a dressing room. And I think Rice could grow into that.”

Manchester United finished second and without a trophy last term.
