Three reasons Manchester United could strike a major transfer deal this week

Three reasons Manchester United could strike a major transfer deal this week

The transfer window has opened, and Manchester United will have to make a number of significant decisions.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already stated his desire for new additions. “We need to do better, work harder, be smarter,” he told The Times, “but two or three players [are needed] to strengthen the starting XI and the squad as a whole.”

DON'T MISS:

This week could be significant. Of course, we say that out of hope, not faith. But there is some logic to the prospect of United starting the month of June in style, even if we fear this optimism will fade by the end of the week...

Get your work done before the Euros arrive.

The European Championships begin on June 11, and after that, signing players for the tournament becomes much more difficult. Deals will have to wait until after the tournament, and even then, the players may decide to go on vacation.

Rather than waiting until mid-July, with only half of the transfer window remaining, United could eliminate some uncertainty by completing deals sooner.

If United intends to complete one major transaction before the Euros, this week will be the busiest.

A move for Jadon Sancho, for example, would be critical because it would define the club's transfer budget pre-sales for the rest of the summer.

Sancho is also said to want a quick deal. Sancho, according to Sport BILD, wants to know which club he will play for next season before the European Championships begin.

Simply demonstrating some ambition

DON'T MISS:

Wouldn't it be nice if United ignored external factors like the Euros and simply struck a deal because it's the smart, ambitious thing to do?

Liverpool has already completed one transfer, acquiring RB Leipzig's Ibrahima Konate.

It would also be fantastic to see United act quickly, demonstrating ambition and demonstrating to supporters that the club is serious about competing for trophies next season.

Solskjaer has stated his desire for new signings, and it would be preferable if the club did not drag their feet as they did last year, leaving everything until the deadline and pursuing the best prices rather than the best players.

With a new director of football in place, John Murtough, there should be some motivation for United to show that this is a better operation. Ambition to improve the team and improve on last summer's sluggish window should prompt the club to strike an early deal and demonstrate decisive intent.

Glazer fan club

On June 4, Joel Glazer will hold his first fan forum in 16 years of ownership.

The Glazers have previously been all talk and no action. Joel Glazer has stated his intention to invest in the team and the club's infrastructure, but nothing has happened since.

Making a significant early transfer move would be a PR coup for them ahead of the forum, and while most fans would see through it, an early move would make sense from Glazer's point of view.

United would have to act quickly to close a big deal this week, and the club rarely acts quickly in the transfer market. It's possible that this fan forum will cause a change in behaviour
