Liverpool target set for Manchester United medical in ‘the next weeks’

Liverpool target set for Manchester United medical in ‘the next weeks’

The Reds have offered Adrian a new contract because they want to keep him as their third choice behind Caoimhin Kelleher and Alisson Becker, but the Spaniard is refusing to sign.

His playing days are numbered, and he is waiting to see what offers he receives to play as a no.1 in Europe, so Liverpool has a shortlist of players in contention to replace him.

Surprisingly, our sources indicate that Liverpool was considering Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The 35-year-old spent five years at United but never played for the club, instead of spending four seasons on loan with Cardiff City, QPR, Rochdale, and Wycombe Wanderers.

He has spent the last three seasons with Aston Villa but has only made 20 appearances. He appears set to join Manchester United, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that he will undergo a medical with the Red Devils in "the next weeks" as the "deal is done and completed."

Adrian could still stay at Anfield if he does not receive suitable offers, and this appears to be the most likely scenario, with sources close to the club indicating that Jurgen Klopp is unconcerned about the situation.

DON'T MISS:

That is unsurprising given Liverpool's broader priorities.

Despite a report in March from Turkish outlet Sabah that Liverpool was scouting Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, Anfield Central sources claim that the Turk is not a target for the Reds.

Ligue 1 teams Lyon and Rennes are interested in him, but he is not a target for Liverpool, and he is far too talented to be a backup.
