Gerard Moreno has already given Manchester United 29 red flags ahead of their Europa League final against Villarreal.

United have had one eye on the Gdansk clash since they swept aside Roma so convincingly at Old Trafford earlier this season, despite clinching second place in the Premier League.

DON'T MISS:

Goals have not been difficult to come by for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team.

While they remain favourites to reclaim the trophy won under former manager Jose Mourinho four years ago - with no such success since - there is an intriguing subplot brewing at each end of the pitch.

Pau Torres, one of United's targets as they look for a long-term partner for Harry Maguire, will be put to the test inadvertently by Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Edinson Cavani.

Meanwhile, Villarreal can take heart from the prospect of captain Maguire's absence.

 DON'T MISS:

Since collapsing as a result of a collision with Aston Villa forward Anwar El Ghazi, the England defender has been racing against the clock to get his name on United's team sheet in Poland.

If the latest update from Solskjaer is any indication, Maguire may have lost that race.

As a result, Victor Lindelof is expected to be partnered by Eric Bailly, who recently signed an extension at Old Trafford, though academy graduate Axel Tuanzebe cannot be ruled out.

Regardless of who makes the cut, they face a difficult night against Moreno and Paco Alcacer.

Moreno, 29, has had a successful career with Mallorca, Espanyol, and now Villarreal without ever making front-page news in Spain.

Few, however, can ignore his output during this campaign.

Indeed, only Lionel Messi has more goals in La Liga than him, and the Spaniard has a higher conversion rate than the sensational Barcelona captain.

With six assists and ten direct goal involvements during Villarreal's Europa League run, there is little doubt about who the opposing dangerman will be when United kick off in Poland.

Moreno revealed ahead of the semi-final match against Arsenal: "I don't like it when people gossip about me. I dislike seeing myself in the news. I know it's part of our job, but if we're not in the spotlight, it's not something I worry about."

Perhaps out of the spotlight. Moreno, on the other hand, will not be able to fly under the radar. His threat to United's hopes of winning their first trophy under Solskjaer is not solely attributable to Lindelof and a plus one at the heart of the defence.

Moreno, who is naturally left-footed, has also been used on the right side this season, with equally devastating results.

The Spaniard, who has ten caps for his country, has scored ten goals in ten appearances in that position across all competitions.

With that in mind, Luke Shaw, the Villarreal striker, enters the fray as he seeks to drift out wide.

Upsetting the likes of Karim Benzema - and, to a lesser extent, Messi - is no easy task. While Moreno may not be concerned about the lack of column inches he receives, the United defence, minus Maguire, will not be taking any chances in their bid to stop him and claim European glory.
