According to a new report, Manchester United is preparing a substantial offer for Harry Kane that would cover any earnings loss caused by submitting a transfer request at Tottenham.
a
Kane's announcement that he wants to leave Tottenham this summer has raised the ire of the European football elite.
Manchester City is thought to be the most likely landing spot, but the Times reports that United are willing to put money on the table to get a jump on their rivals in their pursuit of Kane.
United are said to have been aware of Kane's desire to leave Tottenham long before he made his intentions public.
The Red Devils recently extended Edinson Cavani's contract, which appeared to rule out a major move for another No 9, but this is not the case, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side is said to be so desperate to sign the England striker that they are willing to cover any loyalty bonuses Kane would forego if he was forced to submit a formal transfer request at any point this summer.
United led the Premier League earlier this season, but their title challenge faded, and Solskjaer knows he needs more top-tier signings like Kane to dethrone Manchester City.
Earlier this week, Solskjaer stated, 'I hope we will strengthen with two or three players.'
'We definitely need to challenge higher up the table, and we're still too far behind to expect it to happen on its own.'
'We're not where we want to be; we want to move up one position.'
Kane has been targeted by several United executives, and any £150 million transfer is seen as a way for the Glazer family to defuse increasingly volatile fan protests.
While Cavani is expected to stay at United, the report adds that one current forward could be moved to make room for Kane in the forward line.
Solskjaer is said to be willing to sell French attacker Anthony Martial in order to reduce the bloated attack and fund a portion of any Kane transfer.
Prior to the final day trip to Wolves, the France international has only scored four goals in 22 Premier League appearances this season.
