Why Man Utd's 18 years old defender and young midfielder should start today by Ole Gunnar

Why Man Utd's 18 years old defender and young midfielder should start today by Ole Gunnar

Manchester United must make some important decisions this weekend.

With the Europa League just around the corner and second place in the Premier League secured, the Red Devils could field a much-changed lineup against Wolves.

DON'T MISS:

There's more to it than just giving fringe players and young players a chance. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not want to risk injuring any more of his first-team players.

He already has reservations about Harry Maguire, Fred, and Scott McTominay. More could be on the way if they get an unnecessary run-out on Sunday.

United's remaining centre backs and central midfielders must be wrapped in cotton wool. As a result, two young players, in particular, may have an opportunity to shine.

Will Fish

Without Maguire at the heart of their defence, United have appeared vulnerable. However, they cannot afford to lose either Victor Lindelof or Eric Bailly this close to the championship game.

Both should be rested, potentially leaving Axel Tuanzebe to partner youngster Will Fish.

DON'T MISS:

The 18-year-old is a raw talent, and his performances for the under-23s show he still has a long way to go. However, this is less important than United's need to keep their fit senior options available for the championship game.

Fish captains the second string on a regular basis and was on the bench against Granada earlier this season.

A final day run-out would provide him with much-needed experience while also keeping Lindelof and Bailly in shape in case Maguire does not recover in time.

Ethan Galbraith

United will be hoping that both Fred and McTominay are available for the championship game. However, issues with the pair indicate that they are doubts, and Solskjaer must make a difficult decision.

Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata are all possible starters against Wolves. However, United may require at least two of that pair to begin the final on Wednesday.

As a result, and given that Matic has rarely played two games in a row this season, another youngster may fill in for their final domestic match.

Ethan Galbraith will be hoping to play in only his second senior United game this weekend, and he is a safe bet.

The 20-year-old has a contract at Old Trafford until 2023, and big things are expected of him.

A chance to play in the league, even if in a much-changed side, would be fantastic for the Northern Ireland international. It would also allow his more experienced teammates to rest and prepare for Solskjaer's big chance at silverware.
