Man Utd handed three-man transfer shortlist as alternative to Erling Haaland

Man Utd handed three-man transfer shortlist as alternative to Erling Haaland

Manchester United showed interest in both Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

Manchester United is looking for a striker this summer and has been linked with both Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. Former Manchester United footballer Owen Hargreaves, on the other hand, thinks a bid for any player is not "realistic" at the moment.

 DON"T MISS:

Instead, Hargreaves argues that investing the money required to sign Haaland or Kane on three new players will be better for United.

The 40-year-old believes the Red Devils need a right-winger, a holding midfielder, and another center-back, citing Jadon Sancho, Raphinha, and Declan Rice as possible candidates.

"Of course, I think any ex-Man United player or fan will love Erling Haaland or Harry Kane, but I don't think the amount that they would cost right now in the climate, I don't think it's possible," Hargreaves said on BT Sport.

DON"T MISS:

"Cavani is doing an amazing job.

"Get him to sign a new contract; there would be no relocation charge – certainly, there would be high pay – but I believe you will be able to invest elsewhere."

"I believe they need a right-winger, whether it's Jadon Sancho or Raphinha from Leeds or anything similar."

"I'd love to see Declan Rice at the base of midfield to bring the most out of Pogba and Fernandes, as well as another center-back."

"You might invest the money on Haaland or Kane on three matches."

Meanwhile, United icon Paul Scholes disagreed with Hargreaves' appraisal, advising his former club to sign a "proper center-forward" such as Haaland or Kane.

"I believe United as a club can sign a forward for the next five years," he added. "A true center forward, like Kane or Haaland."

"It will be nice to see you for another year, Cavani." He's been with us for a year.

"He's been amazing, so he'll be a year older and could slow down a little bit, fitness-wise and injury-wise."

"He hasn't played several games this season, but he's scored goals when he does, so that's another concern."

"And then there arethe other teams – will either of them step up?" I'm not seeing anything.

"When I think of those three players, Cavani, Haaland, and Kane, I think of them as center forwards."

"The remaining three players are Martial, Rashford, and Greenwood." I really don't see them as center forwards; they're more like a wide player."
