FINALLY HE WINS PREMIER LEAGUE GOAL OF THE MONTH FOR MAY

FINALLY HE WINS PREMIER LEAGUE GOAL OF THE MONTH FOR MAY

Edinson Cavani's wonder strike against Fulham has won the Premier League's Goal of the Month award for May.

In what was our first game with fans back inside Old Trafford, the Uruguayan frontman took the prize for his quite frankly outrageous 40-yard lob over Cottagers goalkeeper - and former PSG teammate - Alphonse Areola.

DON'T MISS:

David De Gea passed it out from the back before a small back-heel touch from Bruno Fernandes played Cavani in behind the 10,000-strong crowd. With a truly magical goal, the 34-year-old clocked the French keeper off his line from miles away and created one of the season's most memorable moments.

The Goal of the Month award is determined by fan votes, and it is clear that El Matador piqued the interest of football fans all over the world, as he had to beat out some top contenders.

Danny Welbeck, ex-Red and current Brighton & Hove Albion striker, was nominated alongside Ferran Torres' acrobatic goal for Manchester City against Newcastle United and Luke Thomas' volley for Leicester City at the Theatre of Dreams.

DON'T MISS:

Bertrand Traoré's goal for Aston Villa against Manchester United, Phil Foden's strike in City's defeat to Brighton, Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe's curler against relegated West Bromwich Albion, and Stephen Bergwijn's opener for Spurs in Spurs' 2-1 defeat to Villa were also on the list.

This is the fifth time a Manchester United player has won the Premier League Goal of the Month award, which was introduced at the start of the 2016/17 season.

With his incredible scorpion kick against Sunderland in December 2016, Henrikh Mkhitaryan was our first winner, followed by Antonio Valencia's volley against Everton in September 2017.

Bruno Fernandes has received the award twice, once for his counterattacking goal against Brighton in June 2020 and once for his magnificent strike against Everton in February this year - which was our Goal of the Season, having been announced just hours before Cavani's.
