Eric Cantona and Roy Keane are the most recent additions to the Premier League Hall of Fame.
Last month, the Premier League established the Hall of Fame. According to the league's official website, induction into the Hall of Fame is "the highest individual honour awarded to players by the Premier League."
On April 26, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry became the first two inductees, with another six set to be voted in this year. A shortlist of 23 retired players was released, and fans were asked to vote on who they thought should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Eric Cantona and Roy Keane have been voted in as two of the six players to join the team in 2021.
Cantona was a sensation for Manchester United and is regarded by some as the greatest player to ever play in the Premier League.
He joined in 1992, after a contentious transfer from bitter rivals Leeds United. When he arrived, the Red Devils were eighth in the league, but they went on to win the league that season.
He then had another outstanding season, winning PFA Player of the Year as Manchester United won the Premier League for the second time in a row.
However, they were unable to make it three in a row, losing to Blackburn Rovers in 1994/95. Cantona served a lengthy suspension for assaulting a fan during that season.
Sir Alex Ferguson's team returned to the top after his suspension was over, winning the next two Premier League titles. Cantona left Old Trafford after five seasons, with four Premier League winners' medals around his neck.
Cantona said of the honor (via the Premier League on Twitter): "I'm very happy and very proud, and at the same time I'm not surprised."
“I believe you have nearly 30 players who could be elected, but it's different for me. If you have to choose one, it should be me.
“All of the others are fantastic. What about me? I'm extraordinary.”
Keane was an ever-reliable player in Sir Alex Ferguson's side, a tough, no-nonsense midfielder with a touch of class.
This may seem strange, but the Irishman's Premier League career began with heartbreak. He was a member of the Nottingham Forest team that finished bottom of the Premier League in its inaugural season.
Despite the fact that Nottingham Forest were relegated, he remained in the Premier League, having been signed by champions Manchester United. He had his most successful years at Old Trafford.
Keane won seven titles in 12 seasons with the Red Devils, captaining them in four of those triumphs. He retired from English football in 2005, after 366 Premier League appearances and 39 goals.
