Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims Paul Pogba is in invincible shape after helping Manchester United break their semi-final hoodoo.

United are almost certain to reach the Europa League final after defeating Roma 6-2 in the first leg at Old Trafford, with Pogba scoring the fifth goal with a header.

The midfielder was unlucky to concede a penalty in the 13th minute after the ball hit his stick, but he recovered to score his fifth goal of the season.

Despite his low goal total, Pogba has had an outstanding calendar year and is set to start in his fourth final for United next month in Gdansk, Poland, against Villarreal or Arsenal.

Pogba's form strengthened after his agent Mino Raiola promised to engineer a trade on the eve of United's Champions League group loss to RB Leipzig in December, despite being dropped after the first three Premier League matches of the season.

DON'T MISS:

Solskjaer, who coached Pogba in the reserves as a youth, has handled the Frenchman with tact during his time back at United.

"I've always managed Paul the same way," Solskjaer said. "He understands my feelings for and for him, and he understands how important I believe he is to the team."

"I want him to be fit and to run because, with his abilities, he's invincible when he's in shape. I believe I can keep him away from our defense box because he knows himself! He said that he wants to work on his tackling and defense.

"As I said about Edinson [Cavani], we want to create an atmosphere where players want to compete and want to come to work every day." "

The coaches are incredible, the way they practice for games, the environment they're building." I want players to look forward to going to work and playing with us. And the boys have a good time when we play like this."
