Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals promise to Edinson Cavani over Manchester United stay

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has encouraged Edinson Cavani to stay at Manchester United so he can gain experience scoring in front of Old Trafford fans.

The Uruguay international scored twice in United's 6-2 win over Roma in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday evening.

DON'T MISS:

Cavani is yet to commit to a second season at United and is thinking of returning to South America for family reasons. However, Solskjaer has stated that he would 'love' for Cavani to stay at the club and hopes the striker will be persuaded once fans return to the stadium.

He was gone for seven months without playing football for a long, long time before he returned to us,' Solskjaer said after United's victory over Roma. 'He's had a lot of injuries, but he's worked tirelessly to get back in shape and has shown his abilities.'

He is aware of my emotions. I'd love to see him for another year; we've discussed it.' This year has been really tough for him, but I've promised him that Old Trafford and Manchester are different places without fans in the stands, and he must want to get that feeling on board.

DON'T MISS:

Manchester is a wonderful place to live, and I'm trying my best to fit in. Let's see.' On nights like these, maybe we can make it to the final and he can see himself staying for another year.

We don't have to sell the club to him; it's about the experience he enjoys, how he feels walking in every day, the community we're making, and the team he's a part of.

'But, as I said, he has to feel different scoring those goals in the Stretford End with fans.' We have the biggest fans, and there is no better way to rejoice as a goalscorer than in front of them.'

He's more than just a goal scorer; he's a very fine goalscorer, he's been playing football for a long time, and he has calmness and maturity about him. Mason's goal came from a flick and a pass.

He’s just showing his experience and we need that this time of the season, we want the big players and experienced players to step up and he has definitely done lately.’
