Fabrizio Romano provides fresh update on Edinson Cavani’s Manchester United future

According to a reputed Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United will do "everything possible" to retain Edinson Cavani at the club next season.

The Uruguay international joined the Red Devils on a free transfer last summer and has been a standout player, scoring 12 goals and assisting four times in 1760 minutes.

DON'T MISS:

The 34-year-old has suffered from health problems during the season, but when he is healthy, he has shown his consistency leading the line.

He was superb in his club's 6-2 thrashing of Roma last night, scoring two penalties, assisting on two others, and winning a penalty.

In the middle of this, Romano has confirmed that United is doing everything in their power to retain the former Paris Saint-Germain star.

Cavani's deal may be renewed for another season with a clause, and United would almost certainly exercise the opportunity in the coming weeks.

Cavani has expressed a desire to return to South America, and relocation to Boca Juniors has been often mentioned in recent months.

DON'T MISS:

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to persuade Cavani to stay, and Cavani is expected to make a decision after meeting with his family.

Cavani, who earns £210,000 a week, has been efficient with his finishing this season, scoring 31% of his shots on goal.

He has had the occasional bad result, such as against Arsenal, where he missed two clear-cut scoring opportunities.

United continues to look better positioned in attack, with Cavani leading the line and providing a much-needed physical presence.

The club will be looking to strengthen various positions this summer, and retaining Cavani will allow them to save money by delaying the search for a new striker.
