Gary Lineker has warned Manchester United and other clubs that they could be relegated to the middle of the table as a result of widespread demonstrations against the 'Big Six' founders.
On Thursday, some United fans bypassed Carrington's defense to protest the Glazers' possession, and more protests were held outside Old Trafford on Saturday. Another rally is set for Sunday's match at Old Trafford against Liverpool.
Arsenal fans have been especially outspoken in their demand for Stan Kroenke to sell the club in the aftermath of the Super League's demise after Spotify founder Daniel Ek stated that he would be interested in buying the Gunners.
On the other hand, Lineker has warned backers to be careful of any new ownership structures, since there are few assurances that Ek or any other bidder will be different from their current owners.
"This is a huge part of the issue," Lineker tweeted about Ek's supposed takeover. "Fans want more billionaires to buy their clubs....they just want better billionaires than the ones they have now."
A United fan then replied, saying that they would be delighted to see the Glazers leaving regardless of the financial impact on the club. "Excellent, I fully appreciate your stance," Lineker replied.
