Raphael Varane will miss Manchester United's first Premier League match against Leeds on Saturday because the transfer is not "completed yet."
On July 27, United signed an agreement with Real Madrid for Varane.
The France defender, 28, is in Manchester, but he missed the league deadline to register for the weekend on Friday due to quarantine requirements.
"Things happen, and they take their time. It'll be finished soon, I promise "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United manager, remarked
"Unfortunately, the solitude slowed these things."
The UK government's coronavirus travel guidelines compel people arriving from specific countries to be isolated for a length of time.
Solskjaer stated that the transfer would still take place.

He stated: "It's not completely finished yet. He hasn't trained with us yet, and we haven't checked all the i's and crossed all the t's."
Edinson Cavani, Eric Bailly, and Amad Diallo are also out of the encounter on Saturday.
"Edi is in the nation," said Solskjaer. "He's just coming to the end of his isolated phase. He's had some extra time for personal reasons.
"Eric and Amad are also in the country, awaiting clearance to rejoin the team.
"Of course, they've had a really exciting summer, having been in the Olympics and playing games prior to that, so they should be fit before they come."
