Man Utd hold talks with "decisive" £22.5m-rated monster, he's perfect for Solskjaer

Manchester United has met with representatives of Ilaix Moriba.

According to sources, Manchester United is one of several Premier League clubs that have held conversations with the representatives of Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba.

What's the backstory?

According to 90min, a number of English clubs have been in talks about a possible summer transfer for the highly-rated 18-year-old, with all of the traditional ‘Big Six' being offered his services.

Moriba has entered the final year of his current contract at Camp Nou and has so far been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with his boyhood club.

As a result, the teenager has been relegated to the reserves this season, leaving Barcelona looking for a buyer so he does not go for free next summer.

      He'd be perfect for Solskjaer.

Moriba made his senior debut for the Blaugrana in January 2021, but he rapidly established himself as one of La Liga's most promising young stars after a succession of excellent performances.

His abilities had been well-known within the club for many years, however, and former Barcelona B boss Garcia Pimienta lavished praise on him and Konrad de la Fuente last summer.

“Ilaix and Konrad have both been decisive. Ilaix has a lot of value because he is a first-year youth, but Konrad is third, and they have demonstrated that they have a tremendous potential in such an important match,” stated Pimienta.

“Today, they delivered a savage display. They've created a fantastic match. This demonstrates that they are competitive, winners, have Barca DNA, and have a future in this club. Hopefully, they will be first-team players in the future.”

However, financial troubles and off-field issues have already seen De la Fuente leave the Catalan giants for Marseille in the current season, and Moriba, who is valued at £22.5 million, could be set to follow him out the exit door.

During his tenure at United, Solskjaer has adhered to the club's longstanding tenet of putting faith in young players rising through the ranks.

Over the last two-and-a-half years, the Norwegian tactician has rewarded the likes of Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams, and Dean Henderson with extended runs in the first-team setup, and he would definitely love to have another bright prodigy on his hands.

It remains to be seen whether United can close this transaction, but fans and Solskjaer alike will be hoping that an agreement can be reached between the relevant parties.

Given his age and potential, he appears to be an ideal fit for the United manager's stated desire to bolster his squad with talented young players.
