Medical Passed: Club agree to sign Man United sensation after late hijack - Sources

Sources: After Blackpool's Man United hijacking fails, Laird passes his Swansea City medical.

Swansea City has thwarted a late Blackpool bid to capture Man United right-back, Ethan Laird, Football Insider understands.

This website reported last week (6th August) that the Swans had reached an agreement with the Premier League heavyweights to take Laird on loan.

Blackpool made a late bid to derail their Championship rivals' contract.

However, a recruitment source has told Football Insider that Laird is now finalizing his move to Swansea.

They have reached a deal with United, and the young star has already had a physical with the Welsh club.

Laird will be reunited with new Swansea manager Russell Martin, who had him on loan at MK Dons last season, as part of the agreement.

Laird, who can play in both full-back positions, contributed four assists in 25 games for the League One club after joining on loan from Manchester United in January.

The 20-year-old is highly regarded at Old Trafford, having already made two appearances for Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer's first squad.

Last season, he made both appearances, including one start, in the Europa League group stages.

Manchester United wants the kid to obtain regular Championship experience after acquiring experience in League One.

Martin will be looking to go one step farther than Steve Cooper did for the Swans.

Last season, they reached the Championship play-off final but were defeated by Brentford, and they have lost a number of key players subsequently, notably goalkeeper Freddie Woodman and defender Marc Guehi.

The city began their league campaign with a 2-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers, followed by a goalless draw with Sheffield United last weekend.
