MANCHESTER UNITED LAUDED FOR COMPLETING RAPHAEL VARANE SWOOP

MANCHESTER UNITED LAUDED FOR COMPLETING RAPHAEL VARANE SWOOP

Gary Lineker and Darren Ambrose have praised Manchester United for obtaining the services of Raphael Varane this summer.

Manchester United is serious about their business this summer. The Red Devils have secured the services of Raphael Varane, who is poised to finalize a move from Real Madrid soon, after completing the belated purchase of Jadon Sancho, one year after they first sought him with zeal.

Varane's arrival was essential for Manchester United, whose manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has been disappointed by Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly's inconsistencies. The pair's injury problems last season didn't help matters, and it was evident that Harry Maguire needed a more trustworthy partner.

That transfer has now been completed with the arrival of Raphael Varane, who has been met with great enthusiasm at Manchester United. However, it is not just United fans who have praised the signing, with England icon Gary Lineker summarizing the deal with the simple phrase, "Now, that's a damn fine signing."

DON'T MISS:

Not only has Lineker sung lyrical about Varane and his move to Manchester United, but in a section on talkSPORT, Darren Ambrose praised the record 20-time English champions for completing the transfer.

“They did need to improve in that area,” Ambrose added. Harry Maguire had a wonderful Euros, so he'll be full of confidence when he returns. But to have someone like Varane next to him, who has won the World Cup, many La Liga titles, and the Champions League. Four Champions Leagues, I believe. He's a winner, and he's only 28 years old. So £40 million-plus add-ons, if that's the case, is a fantastic price for him.”

“In terms of defense, if they can get Trippier, who is rumored to be available, that will help. We don't know what will happen with him, whether he will be a backup or if Aaron Wan-Bissaka will try to play three at the back. However, you're looking at a tremendous defense. At the present, having three of Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, and Varane appears to be unbeatable.”

In terms of their first-choice back four, Manchester United appear to be fairly formidable, with Varane's addition guaranteed to make them a force to be reckoned with. It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman can repeat his Real Madrid triumph at Old Trafford and break United's trophy drought in the process.
