Manchester United are anxious that their deal for Raphael Varane could fall through but are confident that they are nearing the 'finish line,' according to reports. Next season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the Real Madrid star to partner Harry Maguire. Despite the club's interest in Pau Torres and Jules Kounde, he is now their main target.
Manchester United intends to spend a lot of money this summer.
Despite having already spent £73 million on Jadon Sancho, United are adamant about bringing Varane to Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson attempted to sign the France international in the summer of 2011, believing he would be the ideal long-term replacement for Rio Ferdinand.
And suddenly there are good rumblings about a deal.
Dean Jones of Eurosport reported on The Football Terrace podcast that United can see the 'finish line' in terms of a deal.
However, it is alleged that there are still fears within the club that Varane will not sign with them.
Jones stated, "Manchester United can see the finish line on this transaction."

“And that's where they've been fantasizing about being in recent weeks.
“They had no idea it would go this far,” says the narrator. And, speaking with someone over the weekend, I could see that the optimism and hope were genuine.
“This week was always going to be a major week because it's a crucial moment for Madrid to participate in this.
“United, of course, is aware that the player is interested at this time. They've finally convinced themselves that the player is serious about joining United.
“And Real Madrid has now been notified of the situation. Obviously, it's all about the money now.
“United don't want to spend more than £50 million, so I'm skeptical that this will be completed in the next few hours because there's a lot of haggling to be done
“However, things are obviously moving in the right direction, and Varane expects to play for United. And that's a good indication of how far the agreement has progressed so far.
“United is obviously afraid that this will not happen. They aren't finished yet. This isn't set in stone.
But it's a close call. It's almost here.”
United's worries could originate from the Sergio Ramos fiasco in 2015.
Louis van Gaal sought to sign the Spain international that year. Furthermore, both he and the Red Devils' board of directors were given hope that a deal might be made.
Ramos, on the other hand, leveraged his interest to secure a better contract at Real Madrid.
In the aftermath, the four-time Champions League winner expressed his gratitude for the Red Devils' interest.
"United made an offer," Ramos explained.
"I pondered leaving for a while, but Real Madrid has always been my first choice, and there were no financial considerations."
"Did I ever feel betrayed by Madrid?" No, although I was dissatisfied for a while. There were certain issues that were resolved."
"I haven't heard anything about [Chelsea's interest]." Many things have been uttered in the past.
"Flattery from major teams is always fantastic because it means you're performing well, but if the supporters and my club want me, that's what I'll do."
