Manchester United are allegedly close to negotiating personal terms with Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane's representatives.
The 28-year-contract old's expires next summer, therefore Madrid wants to cash in now to avoid losing him for free the following year.
DON'T MISS:
United will be able to focus on securing a cost for the Frenchman after personal matters have been entirely negotiated, according to Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth.
Varane is expected to sign for £50 million and a five-year contract, according to multiple reports.
Chelsea have also expressed interest in Varane, according to Spanish publication Marca, in an attempt to sabotage United's Varane agreement.
After agreeing to a deal with Borussia Dortmund for winger Jadon Sancho, and rumoured to announce moves for Varane and Kieran Trippier next week, the Red Devils might look very different next season.
The purchase of the Real Madrid midfielder could have an impact on how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sets up his midfield, as Ian Watson has pointed out.
DON'T MISS:
The possibility of Varane's coming is said to have convinced Solskjaer to ditch his McFred comfort blanket. With the France centre-back alongside Harry Maguire, United manager Jose Mourinho appears to believe that his defense no longer requires the shield that it has had for the last two seasons,” Watson added.
“Which is correct – to an extent. Since joining United for £80 million two years ago, Maguire has had a transformative impact, but the England defender has been hampered by the lack of a worthy partner.
“Victor Lindelof hasn't matured into the world-class centre-back United hoped for when they injected £30 million into Benfica's coffers. Eric Bailly is brilliant fun, however, that is not a compliment in the context of a central defender.”
Chelsea is reportedly interested in Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, who has been linked with United.
Camavinga is available for a bargain because his contract with the Ligue 1 club expires next summer, and the teenager has no plans to stay.
Last season, the 18-year-old made over 200 tackles and has the potential to be the Kante-type guy that every team desires.
