Man United close in on world-class star who could cost £42m in transfer fee

Spanish journalist Jorge Calabreshas reported on the El Bunker podcast that Manchester United may finally be on the verge of signing Real Madrid player Raphael Varane this summer.

The 28-year-old is one of the best defenders in the world, but he appears to be on his way out of Real Madrid after a decade with the club. During this time, he won numerous awards and had an excellent partnership with Sergio Ramos, a Spanish legend.

DON'T MISS:

This is precisely what United is looking for this summer. The Red Devils require a new centre-back capable of forming a strong pairing with captain Harry Maguire.

This may provide Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the foundation he requires to develop a championship-winning team.

Varane might cost United approximately £42 million-plus add-ons, according to the report. It's a reasonable price for one of the top players in the world. Varane is also at the prime of his career at the age of 28.

The French international is expected to be offered a five-year contract for over £200k per week when he retires in his 30s. Varane will have provided United five terrific years at the highest level, even if his resale value will decline by the time his contract expires.

It is a fair purchase for the Red Devils to make, given that top-of-the-line defenders can be game-changers. Hopefully, the deal will be completed as quickly as possible.

Varane was anticipated to take some time off after France's unexpected elimination from Euro 2020 to think about his options. The 28-year-old, however, may be forced to make a choice soon if United's interest continues to grow.

It would be a vindication for United, who have been following the player for over a decade. It appears that we're closer than ever to securing our man.

United are also keeping track of La Liga duo Jules Kounde and Pau Torres. However, they have both slipped down the priority list of late. Having landed Jadon Sancho, bringing in Varane will be an excellent way for us to start the transfer window.
