Jamie O’Hara and Carlton Cole clash over Jesse Lingard joining West Ham

Jamie O’Hara and Carlton Cole clash over Jesse Lingard joining West Ham

On talkSPORT on Tuesday, Jamie O'Hara and Carlton Cole got into an argument regarding whether Jesse Lingard should move to West Ham or stay at Manchester United.

After a good loan stay in the second half of last season, the England international is eager to return to the London Stadium.

The Hammers, on the other hand, are unable to satisfy Man United's expectations, and the 28-year-old appears eager to stay at Old Trafford and compete for a starting spot.

While attempting to make a case for what best suited Lingard, Cole and O'Hara have fought.

“I feel like sometimes, you just have to find new challenges,” Cole stated on talkSPORT's official Twitter account on Tuesday morning. He's earned the right to play first-team football week in and week out, in my opinion. And he should simply go fill his boots and go back into football.

“I understand why he would want to stay (at Manchester United) and strive for a place in the team. If you're Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, you want a battling spirit in your side as well, but I think West Ham would love to have him back, and he'd be the key man there.”

“If I were Jesse Lingard, I'd go to West Ham, he's done fantastic things, proven Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he's still a good player and can play at the highest level,” O'Hara answered.

“He obviously thinks in himself, which you can't know, that he's still good enough to play for Manchester United, and if I were Jesse Lingard at his age and where he is now, I'd rather play 15 Premier League starts for Manchester United that season than 38 for West Ham.”

DON'T MISS:

“You say that, big big argument, big argument,

“This season, you can't afford to play only 15 games. What can he do if he has to play games and be the main character? Because, clearly, there are players ahead of him right now, he needs to go out and show what he can do week in and week out.”

“I just think there are too many players who take the easy option of going to play football (elsewhere),” O'Hara responded.

“You've got a World Cup coming up!” Cole retorted. ”

“They have the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, and the Premier League,” O'Hara remarked. They are competing in every competition.”

“Would Gareth Southgate take him if he's just played 15 games this season?” Cole concluded the conversation. I believe you are insane! ”

On the money

Cole is well-informed, and it is in Lingard's best interests to pay attention.

He resurrected his international career with West Ham, and the best thing for him would be to return to us next season.

It's his best chance of qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

Lingard settled in quickly at the London Stadium and had an immediate impact, and we believe he should be pushed to return, even if just on loan.

The offensive midfielder has a spot at West Ham and should not jeopardize it by returning to Manchester United.

If he struggles to play consistently at Old Trafford, he may be interested in returning in January, but it may be too late by then.

Lingard is firmly ahead of Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho in the pecking order, and it would take an incredible level of consistent performance for him to overtake them.

While he did not see any Premier League action in the first part of the season, that could change next season, and there are no assurances Solskjaer will start him ahead of the others.

Lingard knows what he needs to do if he wants to participate in the World Cup, and he must make the right decision for his own benefit.
