HE IS FINALLY ON BARCELONA RADAR

 

Barcelona is allegedly interested in signing Manchester United star Anthony Martial this summer.

Barcelona has been keeping a close eye on Anthony Martial for some time, according to a report in the Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo. However, there is no sign that the Catalan giants will make a summer transfer window move for the Manchester United forward.

In the summer of 2015, Martial joined at Manchester United from AS Monaco as a virtually unknown quantity among Premier League observers. With a big-money contract, there was some skepticism around Martial's signing, but he proved the doubters wrong by finishing 2015/16 as the Red Devils' top scorer.

Since then, the 25-year-old has gone from being Manchester United's top scorer in the 2019/20 season to a meager return of seven goals and nine assists in 36 games in all competitions. Despite his inconsistency, Barcelona appears to be interested in signing the French forward.

Barcelona's offense has already been boosted this summer with the additions of Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero. While the pair will strengthen Ronald Koeman's options up front, it's worth noting that Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann's futures are in doubt for other reasons.

While Dembele has been dragging on a contract extension for a long time and could be sold this summer, Griezmann's exorbitant wages are a problem for Barcelona, who are struggling financially. As a result, the 30-year-old has been linked with a summer exit, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Atletico Madrid all interested in signing him.

As a result, Barcelona may need to add a third player to their attacking unit this window, with Martial appearing as a plausible option. While the story claims that Barcelona has been keeping a close eye on the Manchester United star, it makes no mention of the Catalan club pushing for a summer transfer.

Manchester United, on the other hand, is thought to be open to selling this summer, particularly with Mason Greenwood slated for a bright future at the offensive unit.
