He Axed EIGHT Roma Players From Training On First Day Of Pre-Season

Jose Mourinho has made his mark at Roma, excluding a whopping eight first-team players from the club's opening day of pre-season training.

After being dismissed by Tottenham in April, the 58-year-old Portuguese manager made a stunning return to management.

Mourinho's disastrous 17-month tenure at the Premier League club came to an end just days before Spurs' 1-0 Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Roma had a dismal season, finishing eighth in Serie A and being eliminated from the Europa League semi-finals by Manchester United.

Mourinho, who took over at Roma after Paulo Fonseca's departure, started his new job on July 1st and is planning a huge summer clearout.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Special One has barred eight players from exercising with Roma's first squad because they do not fit in with his goals.

Justin Kluivert, who was purchased from Ajax for £15.16 million in 2018, is one of the names on the chopping block.

Pedro, a former Barcelona and Chelsea player, has also been advised that he can leave Roma in the summer.

DON'T MISS:

Ante Coric, Robin Olsen, Davide Santon, Javier Pastore, Steven Nzonzi, and Federico Fazio are among the other six players Mourinho wants to sell, according to Sky Italia.

Mourinho, who served as a commentator for this summer's Euro 2020, is anticipated to bolster Roma's team throughout the transfer season.

Former Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is apparently looking to replace Pau Lopez with Wolves' Rui Patricio.

Former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka is another transfer target for Roma, who is closing in on a move to the Stadio Olimpico this summer.

At his news conference on Thursday, the new Roma manager said that he had not discussed fresh summer signings with the club's hierarchy.

Mourinho told reporters, "I have not spoken to anyone [about joining Roma]."

"You can decide whether or not that is true, but I have not spoken to anyone."

"I talk to [Roma general manager] Tiago [Pinto], I talk to the ownership, I talk to different people within the club... but I haven't talked to any of the players."
