TRANSFER NEWS: MANCHESTER UNITED PREPARED TO FORK OUT €20 MILLION FOR Nicolas De La Cruz

Manchester United is reportedly willing to pay €20 million for Uruguayan midfielder Nicolas De La Cruz, who is 24 years old.

Nicolas De La Cruz has reportedly caught Manchester United's attention ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Argentine site TNT Sports. The 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder could depart River Plate this summer, with Manchester United willing to pay €20 million to obtain his services.

DON'T MISS:

Nicolas De La Cruz began his career at Liverpool FC Montevideo, where he joined as a 12-year-old in 2009 and rose through the ranks to the first squad in 2015. The 24-year-old moved up to South American powerhouse River Plate after a couple of years in the club's senior squad.

De La Cruz has made 118 appearances for River Plate in the last four years, scoring 19 goals and assisting on 28 occasions. His performances have also helped him get into the Uruguayan national team, and he could be set for a significant move to Europe in the summer transfer window, with Manchester United among the clubs interested.

Given how successful Bruno Fernandes has been at Old Trafford, Manchester United's interest comes as a bit of a surprise. The no. 10 place appears to be settled in a squad that could be changed about a little, with the Portuguese international continuing his upward trajectory at Manchester United.

DON'T MISS:

Donny van de Beek, who joined the Red Devils from Ajax last summer as Bruno Fernandes' backup, has battled for playing time and has been linked with a summer exit. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are the backup alternatives behind van de Beek and Fernandes, and there is no need for another attacking midfielder unless van de Beek leaves.

With Lingard rumored to want to stay at Manchester United, it will be interesting to see how De La Cruz fits into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team. Nonetheless, it appears that Manchester United is ready to pursue the 24-year-old midfielder and is willing to pay €20 million for his services.

The question now is whether De La Cruz will be a real target for Premier League heavyweights this summer. For the time being, the Uruguayan international is a potential target for Manchester United, who might make a €20 million bid to lure him away from River Plate in South America.
