Sir Alex Ferguson and Michael Owen won the race with their Manchester United-themed racehorse for the first time.

On Wednesday, Red Power, a £120,000 purchase, won Ayr's Join Racing TV Now Novice Stakes (1.13).

DON'T MISS:

The two-year-old was sent off as the 11-4 favorite, with punters putting their trust in Alistair Rawlinson's ride.

They did have a tense few moments, however, as the horse veered sharply to the left as they approached the furlong, allowing the pack to close in on them.

Three rivals had every chance to pass the youngster, but he fought valiantly to beat Monsieur Jumbo by a neck.

In the final stages of the six-furlong sprint, Red Power reached a top speed of 42 mph.

It was his second race after finishing fourth on his debut at York 21 days ago.

Owen owns Manor House Stables, where many of his horses are trained by Tom Dascombe. He spent three seasons with Manchester United, scoring five goals.

He also looks after Mr McCann, a colt owned by five Liverpool players.

DON'T MISS:

Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Andy Robertson collaborated on the project with Adam Lallana.

The £65,000 sprinter, named after Anfield press officer Matt McCann, finished third at Leicester yesterday. The team will aim to win races like Fergie has done in the past.

He celebrated a stunning treble last month at Aintree's Grand National meeting, with Clan Des Obeaux's Grade 1 the highlight.

He went on to defeat the Irish on their home turf in the Punchestown Gold Cup, making up for their dominance at the Cheltenham Festival.
