Premier League's top 10 wage earners if Paul Pogba signs new record Man Utd deal

Premier League's top 10 wage earners if Paul Pogba signs new record Man Utd deal

Manchester United is under increasing pressure to make a decision on Paul Pogba's future, but one possibility is that he may become the Premier League's new highest-earning.

Pogba, 28, is approaching the end of his contract at Old Trafford, and in January 2022, he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any team.

DON'T MISS:

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are willing to offer their midfield maestro a new contract for £400,000 per week to stave off potential bidders, a huge increase over his existing £290,000-per-week wages.

With that new number, the 2018 World Cup winner would dethrone Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne as England's highest-paid player.

In April, De Bruyne agreed to a contract extension worth £385,000 per week, just before Pep Guardiola's side won their third Premier League title in four seasons.

David De Gea, Pogba's Old Trafford teammate, formerly held the distinction of England's highest-paid player, and his £375,000-per-week wage still makes him the world's highest-paid goalkeeper.

Many United fans thought it was a bad idea to give an out-of-form De Gea such a lucrative contract until 2023, with the option of extending it for another year if the two parties agreed.

DON'T MISS:

And Manchester City star Raheem Sterling's £300,000-a-week contract is slated to expire in two years, continuing the club's dominance among the highest-paid players.

Following his England obligations at Euro 2020, the 26-year-old is likely to resume negotiations over a contract extension, with Sterling reportedly demanding a "substantial wage boost" if he is to sign new terms at the Etihad.

Arsenal's wage leaders then enter the financial war, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Thomas Partey's £250,000-a-week wages potentially pushing them to joint-fifth in the Premier League standings.

During a difficult 2020/21 season, Arsenal captain Aubameyang, 32, battled malaria and personal issues, while Party struggled to make an impact during his first term in England.

United's outcasts Despite the fact that he is no longer a definite starter for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Anthony Martial earns an eye-watering £1 million each month.

Martial's £250,000-a-week deal isn't set to expire until 2024, despite the fact that he only played a full 90 minutes on 12 occasions last season.

Many fans would prefer Edinson Cavani to earn that amount rather than his £210,000-per-week contract, which is still adequate compensation for the Uruguayan's abilities.

After joining at Old Trafford on a free transfer last summer, Cavani became United's fourth-highest earner, and it's no surprise he extended his contract for another year after scoring 17 goals in 39 games.

Some of the Premier League's greatest stars will fill out the new top 10, with Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele among those earning £200,000 per week.

Mohamed Salah and Thiago Alcantara, two of Liverpool's most talismanic players, are paid the same as United's Marcus Rashford.

Salah, 29, and Rashford, 23, both have contracts that will expire in the summer of 2023, so they appear to be looking to add to their bank accounts.

Meanwhile, Kane's earnings are anticipated to rise if he departs Spurs this summer, with Premier League champions City poised to offer him a lucrative move to the Etihad.
