Scotland's Scott McTominay will not be a favourite for Player of the Tournament at Euro 2020, but he wants to compete with his Manchester United teammates for it.
Old Trafford rivals Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba are likely contenders for the major award in Scotland's first tournament since 1998.
McTominay wants to thrive under the pressure that being a key player for Steve Clarke's Scotland brings, and he wants to be seen in the same light as his Manchester United teammates.
“You never know what can happen,” McTominay said (Sun). There will be some big names playing, but it is not always the case that they are the best. That is not to say they will not because they are fantastic players who have had a significant impact on the Manchester United team.
“But, in major tournaments, you never know what can happen — people can come from nowhere and get in among the big names.
I'm looking forward to it, and it's definitely exciting. You must thrive under pressure; it is an unavoidable part of the game.
“You don't play football for easy games; you want intense ones with a lot of pressure on your shoulders. Confidence can stem from a variety of sources. It could be due to your upbringing, or the way you were raised by your family.
“You can't think of it as too much pressure. When it gets to that point, you might as well give up. Whether it's a cup game with Manchester United, a reserve match, or an international with Scotland, I've always enjoyed it.”
