Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted at several summer signings, amid reports that the club is interested in Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.
Grealish has been linked with United on numerous occasions since Villa's return to the Premier League in 2019, having impressed on the big stage.
Despite missing three months of action due to injury, the 25-year-old made 16 goal contributions in 26 games for Villa last season, and he was also one of the league's leading creators of chances.
He was a target for Manchester United for much of last season before signing a new long-term contract with Villa in September.
Despite Villa's valuation of the playmaker being around £100 million, it has been claimed that United still have an interest heading into the summer transfer window.
United finished second in the league behind rivals Manchester City, who are also interested in Grealish, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bolster his squad for next season.
We are second best, but too far behind to pose a threat to the winners. Then we have to fortify ourselves,” Solskjaer told Norwegian television.
“Of course, something will occur during the transition period. The world has changed dramatically since 15-16 months ago, but we still need to make some moves not only in the transfer window, but also with the team.
“It is never possible to sit back and relax. You're always looking for reinforcements. Because football is a dynamic sport, unexpected events such as injuries, illness, something familiar, or the desire to relocate can occur.
“You must consider and reflect on everything that is possible. I'll never sit down and say, 'Now the team is the way I want it to be,' because you always see other players or teams doing what you want.”
Grealish returned to action in mid-May, starting the final two games of the season as Villa defeated Tottenham and Chelsea.
He has been named to Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the Euro 2020 finals and will play for England.
