Jurgen Klopp will regret allowing Manchester United to sign €10m/season striker unchallenged

Jurgen Klopp will regret allowing Manchester United to sign €10m/season striker unchallenged

Liverpool would have benefited greatly from signing Edinson Cavani on a free transfer from PSG last summer, and they could have pursued Luis Suarez before he joined Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguayan arrived on a free transfer on a one-year deal that has now been extended for another year due to his outstanding performance this season.

Liverpool could have approached Luis Suarez before he moved to Atletico Madrid last summer if they had acted quickly, but I guess winning La Liga has vindicated his decision to stay in Spain.

Following a season in which the Reds failed to outscore either Leicester City or Tottenham despite finishing outside the top four, Jurgen Klopp will be kicking himself for allowing Manchester United to sign such a talented finisher as Edinson Cavani.

Despite making only 17 Premier League and Europa League starts this season, the former Paris Saint-Germain striker scored 17 goals and assisted on six others.

DON'T MISS:

Only Mohamed Salah scored more goals for Liverpool, and with Roberto Firmino failing to reach double figures for goals and assists, Jurgen Klopp will be kicking himself for not signing a true striker last summer.

The only reason I can understand why Liverpool did not sign Cavani is because of his €10 million per season salary.

Fortunately, Klopp has time to ensure that his team enters next season with all of the necessary tools to avoid being blunt in attack.

This season's injury crisis at the back diverted all attention away from Liverpool's lack of a cutting edge up front, but after scoring 17 fewer goals than their title-winning campaign in 2019/20, Klopp needs to sign a natural striker.

Divock Origi's clutch moments in 2018/19 helped the Reds win a historic sixth European Cup, but he's had very few positive moments for the club since then, and with him likely to leave this summer, there are a number of options to consider.

Patson Daka, Donyell Malen, and Dusan Vlahovic have all been linked with moves to Anfield, and while the latter would be far too expensive, the first two could be very good options for Klopp.

Both have blistering speed, a killer instinct for goal, and the ability to deputize on the wing if necessary.
