Gary Neville names Manchester United's two priorities in summer transfer window

Manchester United needs to bolster certain positions in the summer transfer season, according to Gary Neville.

United's 2020/21 season concluded in defeat in the Europa League final after a penalty shootout loss to Villarreal.

DON'T MISS:

Overall, they have begun to bridge the gap with Manchester City, finishing second in the Premier League with 74 points, eight more than the previous season.

The Reds, according to Neville, need to acquire a defender to advance to the next level. He will play for England in September's Soccer Aid for UNICEF.

"They urgently require a centre-back to complement Harry Maguire. "I believe the back four has done good, and I think the defense has done good, but they're at their absolute peak right now," he remarked.

"I believe Aaron Wan-Bissaka is improving and getting better on a weekly basis. I believe Luke Shaw is the best and has always been in terms of talent if he can stay fit.

With Harry Maguire, they have someone who is highly dependable and capable of leading the squad; all they need now is another centre defender to round out the back four.

DON'T MISS:

"It's a risk because I think Maguire and Lindelof are fantastic together, but it's a chance you have to take to advance."

"If you look at Dias, Van Dijk, and Harry Maguire, they're all kingpins in the middle of the defense, but they all have fantastic partners, and I think United could use another one."

Despite Edinson Cavani's signing of a new contract that would keep him at Old Trafford until next summer, Neville believes United wants forward additions.

"It's a problem up front." We've never had a consistent right-winger in recent years, and I think Marcus Rashford is OK on the left. Is Mason Greenwood a right-winger, you might argue?

"Is he a right winger or a center forward, that is the question?" Manchester United NEED a right-winger if he is to play as a centre-forward in the long run. They need a centre-forward if Mason Greenwood is a right-winger."

The former Manchester United captain urged football fans to support Soccer Aid by purchasing a ticket to the match.

“Just when I thought I'd outgrown being booed by City fans! To be honest, I'm hoping my hamstrings last longer than five minutes," he said.

"I also need to go through the next few months without Micah Richards yelling in my ear!" Apart from the joking, we're all playing for a really serious cause: UNICEF.

Their work is as vital now as it has always been, so please purchase a ticket and go - it will be a lot of fun.”

In the England team, Neville will be joined by Manchester United icons Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney, who will be coached by former City defender Micah Richards.

James Arthur, Tom Grennan, Olly Murs, Mark Wright, Paddy McGuinness, Ore Oduba, Kem Cetinay, Liv Cooke, Roman Kemp, Chunkz, and Maya Jama have all been revealed as pundits.

The Etihad Stadium will host Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2021 on Saturday, September 4th. The funds earned from this year's game will aid UNICEF in combating the Covid-19 pandemic by assisting in the delivery of 2 billion vaccines around the world.
