Simon of Athletic Bilbao made one of the most egregious errors in recent memory, handing Croatia the lead in their last-16 tie.
The 24-year-old, who has started all four of Spain's games this summer ahead of De Gea, was unable to control Pedri's back pass, allowing the ball to go into his own net.

In Copenhagen, thanks to Pablo Sarabia's equalizer, the two teams went into the game tied at 1-1.
However, while the rest of his team streamed into the dressing room, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea waited for Simon, and the two exchanged a few words as they trudged into the tunnel.
Simon was plainly outlining what had transpired, and De Gea, who was more experienced, listened intently before no doubt offering his fellow countryman some advise, which went a long way toward ensuring Spain's victory.
DON'T MISS:
The Pedri own goal kicked off what turned out to be one of the most exciting games of Euro 2020, as a 3-3 thriller ensued in normal time to force extra time.
Spain eventually won the tie after scoring twice in the first half of extra time.
Simon, on the other hand, was on hand to make a spectacular save with his legs to keep the score tied after five minutes of extra time.
At full-time, he received high appreciation from Spain coach Luis Enrique and teammate Cesar Azpilicueta.
Enrique stated, " "Football can be a game of mistakes at times. However, after the error, Unai teaches everyone who plays the game not to let their heads droop.
"It's natural for us to exhibit inexperience at times, but no one can deny that this club is capable of scoring goals and playing good football."
Meanwhile, Azpilicueta, a Chelsea defender, said: "We all make errors, and Unai's response was to do everything in her power to make amends.
"He came to our rescue countless times. You are no longer permitted to inquire. Players are human, and they make errors."
Simon went from zero to hero thanks to his game-winning stop in extra time, according to Graeme Souness.
"Goalkeeper makes a great save, and it's 4-3 for them (Croatia). It's a very different second half than the first.
"The goaltender should now be a hero, as he has transformed himself from a villain to a hero.
"Saving that shot at that precise moment in time was the difference in this game."
