Shaka Hislop believes Jesse Lingard should look for a new club rather than accepting a new contract with Manchester United.

After an outstanding six-month loan spell with West Ham United in the second half of last season, the 28-year-old has returned to his parent club.

DON'T MISS:

Lingard joined the Hammers on a season-long loan in January and scored nine goals and added four assists in 16 Premier League appearances.

Because his current deal at Old Trafford is slated to expire next summer, the midfielder's future has become a talking subject.

Manchester United are likely to want to address Lingard's predicament this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing the following season.

It's unclear what Lingard's future holds, but ESPN analyst and former goalkeeper Hislop believes the midfielder would be wise to pursue a permanent move to another Premier League team this summer.

DON'T MISS:

“At this stage, I don't think it's up to Manchester United,” Hislop told ESPN FC on June 26. He's 28 and his contract is up in a year.

“I'm not sure why you'd extend at Manchester United if I'm Jesse Lingard or advising Jesse Lingard.

“You've demonstrated what you're capable of at another Premier League team, albeit a smaller one. Now is the time for you to take action. You are in charge of your own destiny.

“It escapes me why you would sign an extension just to sign an extension and then hand that pawn back to Manchester United.

“There are a lot of players at Manchester United who can be moved on.”

Lingard has only made three appearances for Manchester United in all competitions in the first half of the season before being loaned out midway through the season.
