Barcelona and Manchester United are both reportedly interested in signing Gerard Moreno, who had a successful 2020/21 season with Villarreal.
According to Fichajes, Villarreal forward Gerard Moreno could be in demand in the upcoming transfer window, with La Liga giants Barcelona set to compete with Premier League heavyweights Manchester United for the Spaniard's signature.
Moreno is in his second season with Villarreal. The 29-year-old joined the Yellow Submarine from CF Badalona in 2010 and made his first-team debut in 2014, but he left a year later to join Espanyol.
After three years back at his boyhood club, the Spanish attacker returned to El Madrigal in 2018 and has since developed into one of La Liga's most consistent forwards.
Moreno has made 185 appearances for Villarreal in two stints, scoring 82 goals and setting up 27 others. The 2020/21 season was his best yet, with the 29-year-old scoring 30 goals and creating 11 more in 46 games to help his team win the UEFA Europa League under Unai Emery.
Moreno's form and contributions over the last year have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona and Manchester United both interested in his services.
The upcoming summer is one of major rebuilding for the Catalans, which has already begun with the addition of Sergio Aguero on a free transfer, while Eric Garcia has also signed on a Bosman from Manchester City.
Nonetheless, with Antoine Griezmann failing to deliver as expected and Ousmane Dembele's precarious contract situation, signing another forward player makes a lot of sense, especially given Aguero's injury history over the last couple of seasons.
While a move for Memphis Depay remains a possibility, Moreno would also be a viable target for Ronald Koeman and co.
Manchester United, on the other hand, is missing a prolific No.9 at the top under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Anthony Martial had a disastrous season, finishing as one of the season's biggest underperformers, while Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood were mostly used out wide.

To that end, Manchester United is looking for a new centre-forward, with Harry Kane and Erling Haaland among the candidates.
Moreno, on the other hand, could be a more affordable option for the 20-time English champions, while also adding versatility and flexibility to the mix with his ability to play anywhere along the frontline.
Apart from Barcelona and Manchester United, Atletico Madrid is also keen on the 29-year-old, who has two years left on his current Villarreal contract.
It remains to be seen whether any of the interested parties will make a move to try to sign Moreno this summer or look elsewhere to strengthen their attacks.
