UK government cannot condone Manchester United fans' actions

Earlier this morning, British Foreign Office Minister James Cleverly claimed he did not condone the conduct of soccer supporters who pushed their way into Manchester United's stadium to oppose the club's founders, forcing a match to be postponed.

"(We) cannot, cannot condone the videos we've seen of people storming the field," Cleverly told Sky News. "However, we still need to consider the frustrations that supporters have with a lot of clubs around the game, not just Manchester United."

Earlier, Manchester United's Premier League match against Liverpool was postponed after enraged United supporters invaded Old Trafford in defiance of the club's owners on Sunday, while Tottenham thrashed Sheffield United 4-0, with Gareth Bale scoring a hat-trick.

Manchester City would have won the Premier League for the third time in four seasons if second-placed Manchester United had fallen to Liverpool.

However, Pep Guardiola's side's championship aspirations were dashed after the biggest game in English football was postponed amid wild scenes at Old Trafford.

DON'T MISS:

The Glazer family, who were still infamous for their leveraged buyout of the club 16 years earlier, which saddled United with massive debt repayments, were heavily chastised for their leadership position in the unsuccessful European Super League project.

This inspired United supporters to call for a rally before the Liverpool clash, and about 200 demonstrators forced their way onto the ground, waving anti-Glazer flags and setting off green and yellow flares — the colors of United's Newton Heath leaders.

Supporters are trying to put leverage on the Glazers, who are located in the United States, to sell the club.
