Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking forward to bringing people back to Old Trafford, after acknowledging that recent fan demonstrations have had an effect on his team.

United's last Premier League home game of the season, against relegated Fulham, will be played in front of an audience for the first time.

DON'T MISS:

Despite planning for 10,000 fans, United authorities would remain worried about the club's owners' continued unrest.

Following anti-Glazer riots, a host of supporters stormed the Old Trafford pitch, forcing the match against Liverpool on May 2 to be rescheduled.

Liverpool won the rescheduled game 4-2 last Thursday, though Leicester won 48 hours earlier at Old Trafford in a game marred by further pre-match protests.

Solskjaer, on the other hand, is eager for fans to return to the stadium for good purposes and has called for it to be a "happy day" for all associated with the club.

Of course, the last few home games, especially the Liverpool ones with the protests... It's never fun to see a club that isn't together, people who support the side, but we're hoping that Tuesday can be a constructive day on which we come forward and play a decent game of football.

DON'T MISS:

“It is my responsibility to prepare the squad to play well and to appreciate the day because it is important that we return and enjoy being together.

“I believe that the atmosphere of every club, as well as the interaction between the team and the supporters, are critical to what happens on the field.

“The players are all human beings, and we are all human beings, and we will react positively to regaining our supporters.

“They have always provided us with additional motivation, and hopefully the players will offer the fans a cause to rejoice, and that is what we must reflect on.”

A win will ensure United second position at the end of the season, but their league form has been mostly dependent on a strong away record.

This season, the Red Devils are undefeated on the road in the Premier League and have not lost an away league game in 15 months.

Six home losses have effectively ended any serious challenge to Manchester City for the championship, but Solskjaer claims the latest performances in defeats to Leicester and Liverpool is influenced by the demonstrations.

I also didn't want to use it as an excuse because we lost two games, but it's definite ly a factor in the performances,” he added when asked if the demonstrations had an effect on his team.

“I'm not sure it didn't have an effect on them, but I was surprised by how professional they were and how they handled it.

“None of them protested, and that's one of the most important aspects about me; we never complain; we all look at what we should improve and how we can make the best of a bad circumstance.

“We attempted, but we couldn't get the results, but the players were as good as gold. They've got a couple of days rest, and they're rested and eager to go, so we're back to business for the last two games.”
