Manchester United are said to be in ‘exploratory discussions' with Raphael Varane over a possible summer transfer.
The defender is about to start the last year of his Real Madrid deal, and there has been some uncertainty about his future. Liverpool is often thought to be among a host of clubs keeping an eye on the case.
DON'T MISS:
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are expected to go all out this summer to recruit a centre-back, having completed a crucial piece of business by extending Edinson Cavani's deal for another season.
When Varane was already at Lens a decade back, United attempted to sign him.
Varane instead joined Real Madrid, where he has been a central figure in much of the club's success over the last ten years, helping them capture the La Liga championship three times and four Champions League titles.
DON'T MISS:
The 28-year-old started every game as France won the World Cup for the second time in 2018.
United are looking for a more seasoned mate for Harry Maguire at the core of their back four, and it is believed that Varane is willing to leave Real Madrid.
If he signs, he will be the first player to move from Real Madrid to Manchester United since Angel Di Maria seven years ago.
