Man United fans protest again outside Old Trafford

Hundreds of Manchester United supporters demonstrated against the ownership outside Old Trafford on Thursday, but they did not interrupt the match against Liverpool, which had been delayed owing to protests two weeks earlier.

On Thursday, there was a larger police presence outside the stadium after several supporters broke into the stadium and invaded the field on May 2.

Fans set off flares when chanting for the Glazer family, who own the team, to sell it after being a part of the unsuccessful bid to start a European Super League last month.

Two people were arrested for public order violations, but police did not intervene with the demonstrations, despite the fact that coronavirus laws prohibit huge groups from gathering.

“We want everyone to note that we are all living under prohibitions as a result of the pandemic and that we have a common duty to stay safe and defend one another,” said Chris Sykes, assistant chief constable of Greater Manchester Police.

United co-owner Joel Glazer has promised to connect with fans further in the future, but he has only written an open letter so far.
