Liverpool reportedly miss out on Tom Heaton to Manchester United

Liverpool would lose out on Tom Heaton to Manchester United, according to sources. The goalie is eligible for free this season.

This is from the Daily Mail. According to them, Liverpool had the opportunity to sign Tom Heaton on a free transfer.

DON'T MISS:

For next season, the Reds are looking for a cheap/free goalie. Adrian's contract has expired, leaving them with a vacancy in the role. Heaton, who had his own deal expiring, was a definite possibility at the time.

The 35-year-old will abandon Aston Villa in the summer because there aren't many better free opportunities. Heaton has extensive Premier League background, as well as a few England caps.

Liverpool, naturally, do not want to waste money on a backup goalie, but they are looking for a replacement on the free transfer sector.

Heaton, though, will not be relocating to Merseyside. Instead, he is expected to return to Manchester United, where he started his career.

DON'T MISS:

As a consequence, Liverpool will attempt to expand Adrian's contract through the next season.

Liverpool lose out on Tom Heaton

This isn't a life-changing setback, although it is inconvenient. Heaton should have been a solid backup to Alisson next season. Of course, Adrian has been dogged with suspicions after his performance in the 7-2 loss to Aston Villa. He really doesn't always look up to it, which is a problem.

Alisson is seldom fit for the whole season, so Liverpool needs dependable backup. Heaton, for all of his qualifications, may have been a good candidate to try out for.

There's no assurance he'd be a star, but we'd rather have tried him than Adrian. After all, we're very certain Adrian isn't the best fit.

However, when Liverpool attempts to conserve funds, it seems that the Spaniard is the better bet. We can't really fault them – money will be tighter than average this summer, and there will be much more pressing goals than the backup goalkeeper.
