Hope for United as report claims Dortmund are reportedly 'desperate' to sell him

After two years of speculation, Manchester United may finally sign Jadon Sancho this year.

Of course, with Ed Woodward still in charge, there are more reasons to be pessimistic than optimistic, especially given how the transfer window went last summer.

So, what makes this year different for Manchester United and Sancho?

The key difference this season, according to reports, is Borussia Dortmund's desire to strike a deal.

According to the Telegraph, Dortmund is “desperate to sell,” with Sancho's fee expected to be around £75 million.

It is currently no further along than that, but with United's season over, now is the time to move on.

Dortmund recognizes that they blew an opportunity to cash in on Sancho last summer, and his value is decreasing as his contract is now only two years old. He'll be even cheaper next summer.

The German club has also been affected by the pandemic and must sell Sancho in order to offset some of their losses.

Three reasons why fans should be optimistic about a quick deal

This summer's transfer window is compressed, so don't expect a wasted first five weeks like in late July and August 2020.

Second, Euro 2020 begins on June 11, and key players will want their futures sorted out ahead of time. It makes sense for United to strike a deal ahead of time in case Sancho's price tag skyrockets.

third, on June 4, Joel Glazer will host his first fan forum. This will go more smoothly for him if he can demonstrate that the owners will invest in the team rather than just saying it.

According to The Telegraph, Sancho is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's top transfer target and now appears to be the right time for him to leave Dortmund for a new challenge.

United require Sancho to relieve some of the pressure on Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood while also assisting in the creation of more chances for Edinson Cavani.

Every year, we get excited because a deal makes so much sense. This year, United has Champions League football, a team gap, and Dortmund wants to sell. It would be unforgivable to squander this opportunity, but we've grown accustomed to it with the way this club is run.
