According to the Manchester Evening News, United have begun preliminary talks with the Frenchman's representatives as he considers his future at Real Madrid.
Varane has had a trophy-laden decade in the Spanish capital, but despite being offered the captaincy, he has turned down a new contract because he believes there is a pay disparity between his salary offer and what his best-paid teammates are earning.

Varane was asked about his future while with the France national team ahead of Euro 2020, but he remained tight-lipped about what the future holds and insisted his focus was solely on this summer's tournament.
