Raphael Varane breaks silence on Real Madrid future amid Manchester United transfer interest

Raphael Varane has remained tight-lipped about his future, despite Manchester United's interest.

The summer is shaping up to be a hectic one for Manchester United, with the need for reinforcements made even more pressing by the club's Europa League final defeat to Villarreal.

DON'T MISS:

Along with a right-winger and a defensive midfielder, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for a new centre-back to partner Harry Maguire, and Varane has emerged as the frontrunner.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have begun preliminary talks with the Frenchman's representatives as he considers his future at Real Madrid.

Varane has had a trophy-laden decade in the Spanish capital, but despite being offered the captaincy, he has turned down a new contract because he believes there is a pay disparity between his salary offer and what his best-paid teammates are earning.

DON'T MISS:

Florentino Perez is said to prefer selling the 28-year-old this summer over losing him on a free transfer the following summer, and he is willing to sell to United for around £60 million.

Varane was asked about his future while with the France national team ahead of Euro 2020, but he remained tight-lipped about what the future holds and insisted his focus was solely on this summer's tournament.

This is not the time to discuss my future; I am focused on the selection, on this Euro; it is natural and logical to ask the question, and it is natural and logical for me to focus on the upcoming deadlines," Varane said.

All of us are human beings. We can consider it. In my personal case, I am focused on the goals that we have in the France team; it is not a topic that I will discuss every day in my Clairefontaine room.

I'm focused on my goal, and now is not the time to talk about it.” If I have to discuss it, I will do so directly with the people involved.”
