Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell Jadon Sancho this summer for around £80 million, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Last summer, the England international was Manchester United's top transfer target, but Dortmund demanded more than £100 million, and United irritated them by being too slow to negotiate.
The Bundesliga club clearly wants to decide on Sancho's future before the Euros this summer, and Romano claims that they have set a much more realistic price this time around.
‘Borussia Dortmund's position is unmistakable. Sancho will be able to leave the club this summer if an important bid of less than €100 million arrives,' the expert said this morning.
‘Manchester United are interested in signing Sancho, but there have been no official talks or bids – it is still a “open race.”'
The phrase ‘bit less than €100m' – which is currently £86.54 million – suggests that BVB is willing to negotiate for less than £80 million.
United's negotiators, on the other hand, are notoriously penny-pinching and game-playing, and will almost certainly now come in much lower.
Several weeks ago, reports surfaced that United planned to bid at half of last season's asking price, putting their opening bid in the region of £50 – £60 million.
The gap could be bridged with target-based bonus payments, but Dortmund was hesitant to enter this area last time around.
United, on the other hand, must believe they are in a stronger position this summer, and a compromise of around £75 million-plus bonuses would be an excellent business for the Red Devils.
One potential stumbling block could come from the West End of London, as The Sun reports that Chelsea is preparing an £80 million bid to challenge United for Sancho's signature.
Thomas Tuchel is said to be a big fan of the young winger, and a bidding war between the clubs would give Dortmund the upper hand in this long and drawn-out saga
