After winning the club's Player of the Year award for the second time, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes insists that there is always room for improvement.

The Portuguese star has won the award for the second time in a row, following another outstanding season. His assist on Edinson Cavani's lob against Fulham on Wednesday was his 46th in 57 appearances. Indeed, his 28 goals this season have broken Frank Lampard's Premier League record for goals in a single season.

DON'T MISS:

Last season, he won the award after turning United's season on its head.

He led a top-four charge in the second half of the season after joining in January, scoring eight goals and setting up seven others in 14 Premier League games.

This time, he has helped his team finish second in the Premier League table and advance to the Europa League final on Wednesday.

Nonetheless, the midfielder believes that team honours, such as European silverware, are far more important to him.

“Winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award means a lot to me,” Fernandes told MUTV. “I've always believed that individual trophies are extremely beneficial to players.

DON'T MISS:

“Of course, it lifts you up. I'd never say that I don't want individual trophies.

“[But] it is always more important than a group trophy, a team trophy, for me.

“It is something you do well, you do your game really well, you do the right things, it means you can do a little bit more, it also means you can improve a little bit more.”

“But it also means that people like you, the way you play, the way you try to help the team, the way you do things – and that is more important to me.

“But more important than that is winning a trophy at the end of the season, and this is all about this because football is a team sport, and winning trophies is important to me.”

On Sunday, United play the Wolves in their final Premier League game before facing Villarreal in the European Cup final.

Meanwhile, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to rule out bringing in a striker during the summer transfer window.

Cavani has signed a new contract with United, but his time at the club is limited.

In the long run, there is speculation that Harry Kane will move to Old Trafford from Tottenham in a mega-money deal.
