Manchester United could do something they have not done since sacking Jose Mourinho

 Dean Henderson is set to return, and Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are also likely to return to the starting lineup. 

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's clear-and-obvious back four, which he formed with the signings of Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2019, has been expanded to a five-man backline, with Henderson now the number one.

Burnley's second goal?

United has never achieved the double over Burnley in the Premier League period. 

The last time United beat Burnley at home and away in the Premier League was in 1975-76 when Tommy Docherty was in charge, and Burnley is not only undefeated in their last four trips to Old Trafford, they have gone 2-0 up on three occasions.

United won at Turf Moor in the New Year and is one win away from winning five consecutive league games for the first time since January 2019, when Jose Mourinho was fired and Solskjaer was appointed as caretaker manager.

 

If Pogba plays on the left, the midfield axis will consist of two players from Fred, Nemanja Matic, and Scott McTominay. 

That would be unusual for a team that has only won one of their last eight games, but the aforementioned trio is ahead of Donny van de Beek in the midfield pecking order.

Van de Beek was active in the second half against Granada, although from a wide position, and Solskjaer has rarely used him from deep. 

If he is to get into the United XI as a regular, he will have to start from the bottom.

Cavani's third in a row?

Edinson Cavani has only started three consecutive games once this season, and a repeat seemed impossible during his fitness struggles in February and March.

With two goals in two days, his pick against Burnley is a no-brainer. The Clarets have one of the league's underestimated defensive spines, with Ben Mee and James Tarkowski protecting Nick Pope between the sticks. 

Cavani was up for the war against them in January at Turf Moor.

 

Solskjaer placed Paul Pogba on the left against Granada, and his last two games would say that relocating him is not a good idea. 

Pogba is probably United's best left-sided pick, and the timing couldn't be better, with Anthony Martial out and Marcus Rashford injured.

For the first time this season, United has a free midweek next week, giving Rashford some time to rest his foot before the first Premier League return to Elland Road since 2003.

Holding Pogba gives Solskjaer an excuse to keep Rashford covered in cotton wool.
