Man United news: Solskjaer says he's the "luckiest manager in world football" because of these two players

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his gratitude ahead of the Red Devils' Europa League semi-final against Real Madrid.

United will begin their two-leg semi-final against Villarreal on Thursday evening in the hopes of advancing to the Europa League final.

DON'T MISS:

Prior to this match, journalist Simon Stone confirmed that Solskjaer has been holding his cards close to his chest when it comes to who will appear in goal for United.

"I am the most fortunate manager in the world to have them. We've been constructing clean mats. Dean and David both want to lift the trophy "According to Stone, the United manager said.

How do De Gea and Henderson stack up this season?

David de Gea was Manchester United's go-to man in the Premier League at the start of this season, making 24 appearances.

According to FBref figures, the Spaniard has kept nine clean sheets. However, the United goalkeeper has a save percentage of 67.5 percent, placing him 16th among Premier League goalkeepers with at least 11 appearances.

Henderson has mostly played in cup competitions and the Europa League. However, when De Gea returned to his homeland in early March to spend time with his wife and new boy, Henderson seized the opportunity with both hands.

DON'T MISS:

Since De Gea's absence, Henderson has stepped up to the plate, appearing in all of United's Premier League games since the beginning of March. Henderson has four top-flight clean sheets during this period.

De Gea has only started two games since his return to the team, both legs of their Europa League quarter-final match against Granada.

As a result, the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper could be seen in the Europa League to give Henderson a break.

Will Manchester United offload De Gea this summer?

Henderson agreed on a contract extension with Manchester United prior to the 2020/21 season, keeping him at the club until 2025. According to Spotrac, Henderson is currently making £100,000 a week, indicating that United sees him as a key part of their team.

According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain are both involved in De Gea's services this summer - and United are unlikely to want a £375k per week earner sitting on the bench.

After nearly ten years with the club, it seems that De Gea's tenure with the Red Devils is coming to an end.

Have any goalkeepers been tied to Manchester United?

With one of United's goalkeepers possibly on his way out, the Red Devils could be tempted to put in another backup goalie to bolster the department.

Ex-Manchester United goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Sam Johnstone, according to The Sun, are two names on the club's radar. The West Brom man is allegedly the Red Devils' first pick, but if they are unable to sign the 28-year-old, they will settle for Heaton.

Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa is another player who has been linked with a move to Manchester United.

But the Argentine may be reluctant to move to Manchester having only joined the Birmingham outfit last summer and quickly established himself as their No.1.
